Synth1 Librarian 2020.901 now available (bug fix release)

(reading time: < 1 min)

IMPORTANT: Version 2020.831 has been removed, as it was crashing on some DAWs. Version 2020.901 supersedes it.

Thanks to the final Bank Holiday of the year, I’ve taken the opportunity to make a few more fixes and improvements to Synth1 Librarian. I’ve had various suggestions from users, and this version contains the ‘quick wins’. If you asked for a feature that doesn’t appear, it’s likely because the coding effort outweights the benefits.

New users: I’ve added a video to the downloads page, to walk you through the installation and configuration steps.

Existing users: I recommend uninstalling the previous version before upgrading, to clear out old & unnecessary files. Your custom library and settings will remain unaffected.

Fixes in this version are:

- Improvement: Synth1 window now has close button
- Improvement: All Patches can be navigated using cursor keys
- Improvement: Internal timeouts for long-running operations are now calibrated to local PC
- Improvement: Satellite assemblies consolidated into main .NET DLL
- Improvement: No longer checks for updated versions of the software
- Improvement: Default path settings are now consistent
- Fix: Next/Prev buttons now work when Favourites filter is on
- Fix: Corrected index calculations when using Next/Prev buttons
- Fix: Allow Matches to be dragged to another Category
- Fix: More corrections to work on single-core machines
- Fix: Removed redundant close button from UI

Hi. I’m on a 64 bit machine and Windows 10. My DAW is Magix Melody Maker, which is a 32 DAW. Synth1 (32 bit) works and shows up, but Synth1 librarian (32 bit version) does not (both are located in the same folder). Have you heard about this issue before?

Hi, this is the first time I’ve heard of this DAW! I’ll try to download a demo version, and test Synth1 Librarian against it.
I’ll reply back here when I have an answer fo you.

In Reaper, if there are multiple instances, not all selected presets are saved. Too bad. Therefore not usable for me.

Thanks for letting me know. This is the first time this problem has been reported. Have you tried in another DAW, or something like VSTHost?

Please help, I am unable to get synth1 librarian (this version) to detect properly in Reaper or Ableton Live 10
on my amd windows computer. During VST scan it just hangs and won’t respond.
It does detect and work on my i7 computer.
Not sure what I might be doing wrong, however, I did use WPD (https://www.ricksdailytips.com/wpd/) to change privacy settings. Does synth1 phone home? if so how so I can adjust settings. I tried resetting wpd to not block anything. However, it has not helped. synth1 librarian .dll during scan just hangs up.
I tried removing and reinstalling, I tried using VSThost. Nothing helps… Suggestions appreciated.

Hi again, I’m at a loss as to what the problem might be.
Here’s an idea: try downloading and installing the pre-requisites separately, then run the Synth1 Librarian installer.
How long did you wait, before realising that the scan had hung? Also, you could use Task Manager to watch the CPU load during the scan.

EDIT: Also try the Windows “Event Viewer”, and see if the Windows Logs contain entries from around the time when you launch your DAW/host (try using VSTHost, as it’s lightweight)

Hey, when I watched task manager, the cpu wasn’t too bad but I watched memory usage go above 5gigs used.
I did try VSThost ok no savihost.
I will try it again. I really want it to work. I will post my results.
    Thanks

I reinstalled tried and it still didn’t work, ran SAVIhost – cpu around 5% and memory keeps going up. after about 1 min memory usage up to 2 gigs.

Synth1 lib runs on anther machine win 10 with version .net = 4.8.03752
My comp with trouble is running .net = 4.8.04084
    That might be issue…

Hi Kip, credit for persevering with this – I know how frustrating it can be.

I’m now wondering if the installer is skipping the .NET part, because it detects a newer version…
A couple of years back someone had issues, and manually installing the .NET 4.6.1 Framework was the only way for him to proceed. If you want to try manually installing the pre-reqs, you can find links at the bottom of the downloads page.

Also, confirm that you’ve got the correct 32/64 bit version (for both the Librarian and Synth1 itself)

I attempted manual install and got an error message, I took a screen shot of it, I want to send to you, please email me so I can send it to you
I just tried on another machine, with .net version 4.8.04084 – works fine.
